Highlights at Röhrig-Schacht
As they say down there: "Glück auf!".
The history of copper mining is anything but a glossy fairy tale - and yet it has shaped our region and its inhabitants in a distinctive way, creating valuable traditions and leaving behind a unique legacy. One of the historical treasures of this era is the Röhrig shaft, which is one of the centers of the historical mining landscape in the southeastern Harz foreland. Its landmark, visible from afar, is one of the oldest steel shaft hoisting frames still in operation in Europe. Beneath it, in the depths of the disused mine, history comes alive in a fascinating system of caves and passages - you decide the level of difficulty of your tour yourself. And for those who want to know more about the centuries of mining, there are our museums above and below ground.
